It is disheartening to note that we were compelled to conduct virtual meetings for a period of two and half months due to inevitable circumstances that were prevalent in the university atmosphere. Later, to our delight, the Gavel Club decided to hold its much awaited 555th educational meeting on 14th July 2024. We visited some of the most iconic places in Colombo along with some activities to fill the day with laughter, knowledge, and the joy of being together again.

Our day commenced at the Colombo National Museum. The sheer delight of reuniting in person after an extended period was perceived. Divided into groups, we embarked on a historical journey within the museum’s walls. As we explored, we were captivated by the ancient artifacts and the vibrant cultural legacy.

We visited the tranquil Viharamahadevi Park for lunch and gathered for our highly anticipated 555th educational meeting afterward. The idyllic surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a round-robin session, during which we explored three compelling topics.

A. A small incident that ultimately became one of your most memorable moments in gavel mora

B. A person I wish was there next to me right now to celebrate today

C. A place in Colombo that holds a special place in my heart.

Each member shared their personal stories and reminisced, enhancing the day’s session. A special cake was cut to mark this significant milestone.

The excitement continued as we moved to Independence Square for a thrilling treasure hunt. Divided into groups, we were given clues to find specific locations in the vicinity. The hunt was a great amusement which had each group racing against time to secure the most points. As a result, Group 4 emerged victorious. It was a fantastic way to blend fun with a bit of friendly competition.

Our day concluded with a visit to Galle Face, where we enjoyed some delicious ice cream by the sea. The cool breeze and stunning sunset provided the perfect setting for our group picture. It was a moment of pure joy, capturing the essence of the day, togetherness, happiness, and the sweet taste of success.

Our 555th educational Gavel meeting was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of our resilience and unity. Each moment of the day, from exploring history to engaging in spirited discussions, and enjoying simple pleasures, reminded us of the strength and spirit of our club. As we anticipate future gatherings and achievements, this day will forever hold a special place in our hearts, a clear testament to the connections we’ve forged on our collective journey.
